B•Ballers Hoops Roswell 5-on-5 League Rules
1 Court
The game will be played on a full basketball court.
2 Teams and Gameplay
- Each team shall consist of at least 8 players (5 players on the court and 3 substitutes)
- No full court press.
- Defensive players must be set up behind the half court mark
- Defense can begin at the half court mark.
- No Triple teaming
3 Game Officials
The game officials shall consist of 1 referee or 1 referee and 1 time/score keeper.
4 Beginning of the Game
- Both teams shall warm-up simultaneously prior to the game.
- Jump ball shall determine which team gets the first possession.
- Everyone gets a free throw for the initial points (max of 8 points as some teams may have more players)
5 Scoring
- Every shot inside the arc shall be awarded 2 points.
- Every shot behind the arc shall be awarded 3 points.
- Every successful free throw shall be awarded 1 point.
6 Playing time/Winner of a Game
- Games will consist of two fourteen (14) minute halves with a running clock. Clock only stops when there is a timeout, injury, or ref’s call.
- Mercy Rule: If lead is 30 points or greater after halftime, the score board will no longer continue to keep score but we will keep the score via paper. If the losing team closes the score within 20 points then the score board will continue keeping score.
- Overtime will be one (4) minute of play. If a game requires a second overtime then sudden death overtime is in effect. Sudden death overtime is the first team to score.
7 Fouls/Free Throws
- Fouls during the act of shooting inside the arc shall be awarded 2 free throw, whilst fouls during the act of shooting behind the arc shall be awarded 3 free throws.
- Fouls during the act of shooting followed by a successful field goal shall be awarded 1 additional free throw.
- Fouls will be monitored. Teams are allowed a total of 7 fouls per half. On the 7th foul, the opposing team will shoot one and one free throws. (One and one means a player shoots the first free throw, if made, they shoot a second).
- Technical fouls count as an individual foul.
- If a player commits a flagrant foul, they could be removed from the game and gym. If a player becomes too aggressive or starts a disruption to the team or league, they could be suspended from the team and removed without a refund to the parents or player.
8 Substitutions
Substitutions are full bench substitutions at every 4-minute mark in each half.
9 Time-outs
- Each team is granted 2 time-outs per half. Any player or coach with possession can call the time-out.
- All time-outs have a length of 45 seconds.
